Johanna Tachas - September 2008

I started Taekwondo with Mr No, my sister and mum when I was 7 years old, and now I am 10. Taekwondo has shaped my life and made me a different person. Doing Taekwondo with my sister and mother has also strengthened my relationship with them and others in the club.

Mr No has taught me the self defence techniques. I have been coached to sporting success at the Victorian and Australian championships a few times. I am physically healthy and strong because of all the exercise. Most importantly Taekwondo has made me mentally strong and helped develop my character. It has put me through tough times, sad times, happy times and fun times.

As a 7 year old white belt, I was an innocent little white seed. When I got to my yellow belt that gave me sunlight to grow. Then I started to sprout into the sky with my blue belt. Getting my red belt was like having a red flower blooming in the warm sun. Once I get black belt, I will have time to think and space to grow. To help others grow as the colour black absorbs all othe colour belts.

The philosophy of Taekwondo starts with the Students Creed

"Always

I will do my best

To reach my full potential

And not waste my Precious Life"

I also remember the player's oath Philosophy when I was at the Australian Championships.

I have learnt some important Philosophy from Taekwondo.

To respect others and respect myself and do my best.

To work with others, like Mr No and my coaches during competitions and training.

To have courage in sparring fight games and to try new things.

To have modesty and be a good sport whether I win or lose.

To constantly improve at my sport and win competitions, and to mature as a person.

I think the spirit of this Martial Art is to encourage this strength and wisdom. By continuing to do Taekwondo I hope to learn more Philosophy of Taekwondo.

To improve my confidence

To become more disciplined

To help my friends

To be a trusted leader

Thank you Mr No for motivating me and helping me through everything in training for Sparring and Poomsae and learning the Philosophy of Taekwondo. I hope to do the same for others in Taekwondo and other things I do in life. There are lots of positives in Taekwondo that is why I will continue my journey as a black belt
