The Australian Taekwondo Team made Australia proud at the 2008 Commonwealth Championships held in Winnipeg, Canada from 21 – 23 November, bringing home 9 medals and 2 awards.

The WTF approved Electronic Protectors, LaJUST Electronic Impact Detection and Scoring System (EIDSS), being used for the first time at an International benchmark event was a huge success where controversies of manual scoring were greatly reduced.

As Head of Australian Team, Grandmaster Joon No was very pleased with the success of the Australian team, as well as the use of LaJUST EIDSS. “With the LaJUST EIDSS state of art technology, the competitions results were fair and truly reflect the skills of the competitors. With their outstanding performances, it goes to show that Australia can outperform other countries. We have a number of promising young talents.”

For the sparring competition, Australia won 1 silver medal and 4 bronze medals.

Joon No's Taekwondo, once again, performed with impressive results, with 2 of the 5 medals won. Rudolph Nunes and Jerome Tseitlin both won bronze medals and received the “Outstanding Senior Male Athlete” and “Outstanding Junior Male Athlete” Awards, respectively for their great performances.

All 4 competitors for the poomsae (formwork) competition won medals, with 1 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze. Grandmaster No gave the competitors some last minute coaching and was impressed by their fast learning capabilities. Grandmaster No was one of the International Poomsae Referees judging the competition.

At the championships, Grandmaster No was elected as the Commonwealth Union Poomse Chairman for 2 years and will be organising next year’s poomsae competition in India.

Congratulations to Grandmaster No, Rudolph Nunes and Jerome Tseitin on their outstanding achievements.
