It was a significant milestone for Taekwondo in Oceania with the introduction of LaJUST Electronic Protectors to Oceania.

The LaJUST Electronic Protector is the only WTF approved and licensed electronic protector in use at WTF Sanctioned International Competitions. It measures exact hit power, improves objectivity of referee judgment, enabling fairer and clearer competitions.

WTF has devoted much of its time and energy to the development of an electronic protector system to help ensure fairer judgment and refereeing at Taekwondo competitions, thereby reducing possible controversies arising from judgment. This would greatly help enhance the image of Taekwondo and the WTF.

Joon No’s Taekwondo in Victoria hosted the First Oceania Sparring Competition  using LaJUST Electronic Protectors on 24 May 2008. Seventy Australian Taekwondo athletes from various clubs had the special privilege of experiencing the LaJUST Electronic Protectors for the first time in Oceania.

Grandmaster Joon No was very pleased with the success of the event. “This is the first time there have been no complaints on the outcome of the competition. It proves the effectiveness of the LaJUST Electronic Protectors in ensuring fairer competitions and reducing judgement”, said Mr. No.

LaJUST in Korea is equally thrilled to hear of the successful use of their electronic protectors  at the Competition, and hope to hear of more successes from Oceania in the near future.

The introduction of the LaJUST Electronic Protectors is definitely a positive development for Taekwondo in Australia and Oceania, given the increasing trend of electronic protectors becoming the standard for future WTF Sanctioned sparring competitions.  With the availability of the protectors in Australia, Australian athletes now have the chance to train on new techniques required with the electronic protectors.

Mr. No said, “I have waited 20 years for this to come; to score on the electronic protectors requires different technique. Athletes need to be more precise with their kicking technique and only a good kick will score.  This is why I feel strongly that the electronic protectors will raise the standard of competition and the basic techniques of our competitors. Competitors can now focus on good kicking techniques and be assured of fairer scoring.”

“The Electronic Protectors are gradually being adopted and used at various International Competitions, and I believe this will eventually be made compulsory at all competitions. It is therefore important for Australian athletes to be trained using the electronic protectors at various training, Club, State and National Competitions”, he continued.
